Maternal Grandmother

Along the coasts of Norway are found countless islands. Near the southwest coast not far from Bergen, is found a small island called Hugleroen. Here Lars Huglen lived. He was the son of Helge and Anna Margrethe Huglen (great-great-grandparents).  Lars Huglen (great-grandfather) was born in 1824. He was married to Methe Kloster, daughter of Anders and Ingeborg Kloster (great-great-grandparents).

LARS & METHA HUGLEN lived on the part of the island called Sorhuglen (south). To them were born five children. They lived on a small farm and kept some sheep and cows. Lars Huglen worked as a miner in a sulphur mine on Stordoen (another island). The name of the mine was Guldberg. Later a mine was opened on Hugleroen that made it more convenient. Then the two oldest boys worked in the mine also. The mother, Methe Huglen, did spinning and weaving for others besides taking care of her duties at home. The father also did some fishing in the wintertime.
